Welcome to the Combustion Research Laboratory
The Combustion Research Laboratory (CRL) of the Paul Scherrer Institute is part of the General Energy Research.
Research topics include laser diagnostics in combustion with emphasis on linear and non-linear spectroscopic techniques, turbulent premixed combustion in high-pressure systems, catalytically supported combustion as well as oxidation processes at high pressure (simulation and experiments), constant volume combustion spray diagnostics in.
The Combustion Research Laboratory is equipped with world-class laser diagnostics equipment as well as with powerful hard- and software in the field of Computational Reactive Fluid Dynamics (CRFD). A series of test rigs (atmospheric and high-pressure, steady and transient, laminar and turbulent burners and combustion chambers) are available for combustion related investigations; most of them provide appropriate optical access for non-intrusive measurement of flow parameters, temperature and species concentration.
Of the current staff of more than 30 people 12 doctoral students work on their PhD thesis in close cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, Lausanne and other Swiss Universities.
