The research activities of CRL are closely linked to combustion research projects carried out at the I.C. Engines and Combustion Research Laboratory (LAV) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich by means of a common Combustion Research Programme. Having been established in 1995 this programme allows for optimal utilization of resources and synergies among the competencies of the groups involved (in total 50 co-workers).
Research is carried out within CRL both on a fundamental and an applied (industry oriented) context. External funding provides resources for about half of the total research staff and equipment (investment and operation costs). Basic research activities are part of the Swiss Pilot Center Leonard Euler of the ERCOFTAC (European Research Council on Flow, Turbulence and Combustion); activities related to applied research are integrated with projects funded by The Innovation Promotion Agency (CTI) and via direct partnerships with industry.
